RTC Board Meeting
Tuesday, March 9, 2010, 4 p.m.
The Prosperity Center, 520 E Street, Eureka
Present: Daria Topousis, Mary Cruse, Michael Kraft, Bob Morse, Steve Stratton
Absent: Seth Johanessen
Thursday Lunch
-Mary says speakers are ready to go
-Steve says internet no problem, but slow
-Daria to talk about RTC, introduce Mary as new president
Scholarship
-Michael suggests giving a student membership to every student that submits an essay
-Specify Humboldt, Mendocino, Trinity
-Deadline: May 1st at 5pm (e-mailed PDF/DOC submissions, Daria has a rubric for scoring)
-Discuss and determine winners at May 11 meeting
-Sent to board e-mail address, moderated by Bob
-Winner reads essay out loud at June luncheon
-Monica to have this out by the March 15th
1) Be very creative about some future use of the internet, which we haven’t thought of yet (How it might be used in 10 years)
2) Assume the broadband infrastructure is solved by 2011, where are three arenas that community organizations should focus their efforts for future expansion of technology?
Membership
-Michael in process of sending mail to 2008 members that haven’t renewed
-Bob has e-mailed four new members
-Daria has talked to two potential new members
-Giving student memberships to Scholarship applicants
Google Proposal
-Michael says we have to our advantage, an isolation of creative people
-High percentage of artists, consultants, IT professionals, thriving digital media community
-Bob adds activism and interest
-Due around the end of this month
Potential New Board Members
-VOTE Mary in as new president- Yes: 5 No: 0 Absent: Seth
-Steve nominates himself as new Treasurer, upon completion of Michael’s term
-Michael says the board needs a knowledge of web savvy, content management
-linkages to the business community
-Discuss at the next meeting
-Monica to try to preserve some institutional board memory
-Bob suggests looking at the business plan- 5 years old at this point

- Michael moves that RTC supports an application from the City of Eureka for the Google initiative. Steve seconds.
