After introductions, the following business was conducted:

1) TECH EXPO 2000 ? the September 29-30 event at College of the Redwoods was debriefed, with consensus that it was a success. Over 500 local high school students and teachers attended the Friday program. All members and volunteers who contributed to this event were thanked for their effort. The RTC Board will meet with representatives from CR, NCC Radio and Humboldt County Office of Education to make changes in the event format and begin planning for 2001.

2) EUREKA CHAMBER MIXER ? the September 21 event at the Eureka Concert & Film Center was debriefed with consensus that it was a success. Again, all members and volunteers who contributed to this effort were thanked. It was an important introduction of the tech industry to the business community. RTC won another drawing to stage this event in September, 2001.

3) TIMES-STANDARD ?TECH BEAT? ARTCILE ? a new T-S business section called ?Tech Tuesday? debuted September 26, and RTC members have a standing column in this section entitled ?Tech Beat?. We will rotate writing assignments among RTC members; interested parties should submit a 500-600 word draft to any member of the RTC Board for editing and consideration.

4) RTC BOARD OF DIRECTOR VACANCIES ? Alec and Katrina Grae have resigned as RTC Board members, leaving two vacancies. Nominations were received for Rene Agredano to fill Alec?s position (expiring on Dec 31, 2001) and Carl Birk for Katrina?s position (expiring on Dec 31, 2000). Nominations were sought from the floor and none were received. Jim Nelson called for a close of nominations and the vote to confirm Rene and Carl as RTC Board members was unanimously passed.

5) STATUS REPORTS
a) TECH TALENT INVENTORY GRANT PROPOSAL ? Dave Lyons is continuing to work on this proposal. The RTC Website should be modified to begin gathering this information ASAP.
b) HIGH TECH FACILITY ? several opportunities are converging to create tech incubation ventures in the community. Chris announced the formation of a private industry group called Crawford & Associates Technology Development that is working on these proposals. It was agreed that a technology shared-use facility should be a high priority for local economic development.
c) MEMBERSHIP DRIVE ? in the past several weeks, 19 new members have joined RTC. A new member giveaway drawing was held for Web software (Cleaner5 and WebEdit, donated by Jim Nelson), and the winners are Virginia Berris and Doug Renwick (Copia Group).
d) RTC TREASURY ? the Board is working on a final accounting of expenses related to the Tech Expo, Mixer and Website makeover. This information will be provided at the next meeting.
e) RTC BYLAWS ? Dave Lyons is working on a major bylaws revision that will transform RTC into a non-profit organizational entity. These will be submitted to the full membership for consideration when completed.
f) HP COMMUNITY GRANT ? The Eureka City Schools and Ink People for the Arts are applying for a 3-year, $5 million community technology grant from Hewlitt-Packard. RTC is cooperating in this effort.

6) OPEN FORUM / ANNOUNCEMENTS
** Larry Goldberg suggested that RTC develop tech business recruitment material that he and others could carry to out-of-the-area trade shows.

** Chris Crawford advised that the Hoopa Tribe was seeking proposals to improve rural telecommunications, and these developments could simultaneously solve the need for improved high speed data access. RTC is cooperating in this effort.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted,

CHRIS CRAWFORD, Oct 14, 2000
