RTC List Members,
We have been asked to forward this message from our colleagues at HSU's

Subject: AUTONOMOUS TECHNOLOGY ON THE NORTH COAST?
Dear Friends & Colleagues,
The burgeoning field of autonomous technology is expected to double
within the next two years. Sensing technologies, robotics, and
information processing are being applied to business and government
operations of every type. Humboldt State University's Office for
Economic & Community Development and Northern California Small Business
Development Lead Center are hosting an evening forum November 15th for
local business leaders and educators to learn about the potential for
autonomous tech in the North Coast economy.
Tim Johnson, founder and executive advisor for the California Autonomous
Technology Initiative and executive director of the Yuba-Sutter Economic
Development Corporation will present how he has helped businesses to
create thousands of new autonomous tech-related jobs in Yuba and Sutter
counties by brining industry, academia and government together to
support and enhance California's autonomous technology community.
Johnson's economic development organization received the 2006 U.S.
Economic Development Administration award for excellence in rural
economic development. Tim will discuss the horizon of possibilities for
autonomous tech, the variety of commercial applications that it lends to
helping diversify and sustain the local economy, and the benefits of
statewide investment.
Cognisense Labs founder Ken Owens will also speak on how Humboldt County
can ride the autonomous technology wave of opportunity.
Cognisense Labs, founded by an HSU student-professor team, is sparking
the research community's fascination, winning venture capital, lining up
big name customers, and pioneer the way for Humboldt County and
California in the autonomous technology industry. Cognisense software
enables autonomous robotic sensing technology to be used for industry,
research and humanitarian applications such as clearing dangerous
minefields.
This "Autonomous Technology" forum will be on Wednesday, November 15th,
5:30-7:30pm at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka. It is the third
workshop in the HSU Office for Economic and Community Development's
2006-2007 Taking Care of Business series. Seating is limited. RSVP to
reserve your seat by contacting econdev at humboldt.edu or 826-3924. For
