I think the contest is a great idea, and just the type of thing the RTC
should support. But why limit it to designing/building a computer system?

I've always tried to convince people the Redwood TECH Consortium is not just
a computer user's group, but an association that promotes the use of
technology in general. I'd suggest the contest be more about developing a
program, project, or system with the greatest "green factor" ... This could
include a personal computer, or much more (see Bob's comments).

The rules and benchmarks might be harder to develop for such a contest but
it could apply to many more individuals than the few system integrators out
there. And besides, that's what committees and task forces are for!

I suggest any interested individuals work together (offline) with Michael to
develop a recommendation to the Board, which should only be involved in an
oversight role.

My 2¢ ...

PS: If you feel this type of discussion is not suitable for this list, reply
to the Board members only (board at redwoodtech.org) -- not the entire list --
with your suggestions.
