I'm not personally interested in a contest as I am not comfortable with competition, and I'm not technical enough to even participate, but I am/was really glad to read the "long" email as I'm fully for green technologies. My $.02 is that as long as we are not being rude or crude, the list serve can be used for any sort of technology potentially related to a computer. Just about everything has a computer at one end or another. Also, why censor an idea - who knows where/how it will actually end up?

I'll make this brief... It doesn't seem like we should be restricting ideas or limiting ourselves in the vastness of "Technology" for our regional interest/topics. However, if an idea only has limited interest perhaps it needs to be looked at as a SIG (special interest or side interest group) if not for everyone in RTC. Additionally, considering how many people subscribe to this list and are members, it seems to me we really NEED to clarify whether THIS list is only going to be for short announcements and things taken off line and elsewhere, AND either a second discussion list or web-based discussion area be added for dialogue. It seems there are too many people here that want the "airways of this particular list to be kept open" and shortened to quick references.
Sincere Regards,
Dwight

You may be missing the point..what Humboldt needs is pervasive
high-speed connectivity and redundant connections to the rest of the world.
This is not a high tech area with lots of engineering hackers trying to
make "green" computers, and anyhow, MIT has already done that, complete
with lowpower crank for those of you with more muscle then money.
Let's stay focused on the important local issues...maybe building lots
of cheap, energy efficient, secure long distance WIFi repeaters.

Hello friends. I guess my previous post was way too long and involved. I received three email responses as a result of it, but none of them commented on this proposal. So, what do you all think about this? Can we have a discussion about this idea on list?
