[RTC List] Unstable Suddenlink service?

David: Thanks for noting that not everyone has access to DSL. We in Blue Lake are in the same boat as you. I was wondering how you had heard that Dow's Prairie was in at&t's plans i.e. where or from whom? I've contacted their representative Rhuenette Alums a number of times over the last 2 years or so and she always says providing DSL access is not her decision and if she knew anything, she couldn't legally tell me anyway.

DSL is not available in some of the areas that Suddenlink's cable service is (for example here in Dow's Prairie). I am told AT&T plan to extend their DSL service but here (Box 38) the equipment upgrade needed is not currently scheduled (or wasn't a few months ago). So while I don't know Pat's location, there are many people in the area who can get only cable, in addition of course to the many people in Humboldt County who can't get either.

Pat,
You would be well advised to check out the AT&T Yahoo! DSL
offerings. I've had the Pro (3 Mbps) and the Elite (6 Mbps down)
for the last two years and I've found the service to be the most
reliable and non-intrusive of any dialup or broadband service I've
ever had. The only down time I have had was when the fiber links
were cut recently, and even then I was able to use the included
free dialup service during part of those outages to check my e-
mail. My service is residential, but the same packages (as well as
others) are available to businesses, and the prices are very friendly.
A real bonus with AT&T Yahoo! is the online security package which
is part of the service. I don't pay extra for antivirus, spyware,
etc. software because it's "free" with access and activation built
into my browser. I also find that AT&T Yahoo! DSL e-mail has
excellent spam filters. In addition, it works seamlessly with both
Mac OS 9 and X as well as Windows and Linux.
Suddenlink (some online twits have called it Sudden Stink) recently
raised my cable basic TV service by 32.6 percent without prior
notice, and just this past week sent me a notice that my account
was in arrears (erroneously) and about to be disconnected, and then
called with an automated message to apologize the next day for
sending me the erroneous notice. I'm not a happy Suddenlink
customer, and that extends to the poor quality of audio on local
stations, as received at my home via cable. You are just the latest
in a growing number of Suddenlink customers whose complaints have
reached my attention.
I'm not surprised you're having trouble with your cable modem
service. Suddenlink is not a quality operation. Bring back Cox!

Hi all
My Suddenlink cable modem service has been cutting in and out for
most of the past week. Wondering whether it's something in my
setup or whether it's a broader issue (so I know whether I need to
take steps to fix it, since it is disruptive to my business).
Thanks
