James,
     I wouldn't change your modem unless you can get them to give you a 
new Motorola. My modem died and they gave me one of there new white and 
tan modems. Long story short, after two of the white and tans I finally 
got them to give me a Motorola and it worked better than the white and 
tan ones. As for Jill she needs a signal booster not an amplifier.
