[RTC List] Unstable Suddenlink service?

That's what was going on with me, but it seems to have stopped now (at least
for the moment). I agree that this is one more roadblock in the way of those
of us running Internet-dependent businesses from Humboldt.

This subject is beginning to look like an RTC meeting topic - clearly a lot
of frustration out there ...

We are experiencing outages with the error message below at least 6 - 10
times a day:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'Suddenlink Mail - lynn471 at suddenlink.net', Server:
'pop.suddenlink.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

The cable light on the modem goes off & then comes back on a few minutes
later then goes right back out. Sometimes it takes rebooting the modem &
router.

It makes trying to run an Internet-based business pretty tough.

I, also, have been experiencing periodic outages with my Suddenlink
broadband.
I have a wireless network, with some wired and some wireless computers.

Jill, something to remember is that the internet connection is a 2-way
situation, whereas the TV is a on-way.
When splitting the signal to feed TVs and cable-modem, adjust the
split-ratios such that the internet path gets a larger signal.
Split the incoming signal in half and feed one output to the cable-modem.
Then split the remaining signal into as many channels as needed.
I have 5 TVs fed with adequate signal and also reliable internet; as long as
Suddenlink is behaving.

Also, when some devices are connected to the cable, they can cause a
reflection that will interfere with other devices.
You may not be able to see the effect on a TV, but signal quality is much
more important on an internet connection.
Look at the connections to see if any are loose or damaged .

I have had to reboot my modem on several occasions recently, to restore
internet service.
Prior to the last few months, I think the reboot was required about once a
year.

Mine is the older Motorola modem and I wonder if anyone has an opinion as to
whether I need to upgrade the modem.

And a final question to the techies.
I get periodic interference-bands on channel 18, but no other channels show
the same behavior.
Does anyone else see this, or do I have some phantom transmitter in my
house?

James Topping

We also have been experiencing problems at our home. We have a wireless
network & haven't had any issues (other than problems in transferring over
from Cox) but last week my son's service went out & as soon as we corrected
it, the service to the main computer would go out. We discovered thru trial
& error that both computers could have internet but only if the cable wasn't
connected to the TV. Figure that one out!

Subject: [RTC List] Unstable Suddenlink service?

Hi all

My Suddenlink cable modem service has been cutting in and out for most of
the past week. Wondering whether it's something in my setup or whether it's
a broader issue (so I know whether I need to take steps to fix it, since it
is disruptive to my business).

Thanks
