I would consider investing into the project if it could turn a profit down
the road. Keep me in the loop.

Hi folks ... I originally posted this to Craig's list with 0
replies. :-( Perhaps this is a more fruitful locale.

Hi Folks -

I'm wondering if there's any interest in forming some sort of
wireless co-op in the county. Initially I'd be interested in the
lower Eel Valley region ( roughly covering Ferndale<>Loleta<>Van
Duzen River area ... ). I'm assuming mostly people beyond DSL and
cable as targets but wouldn't have to be limited to that. As a
general concept, I picture starting with a fast DSL line in a
(somewhat?) central location (note that all connections/users
would have to be line of sight or relayed by another user) and
possibly building around these gizmos
(http://meraki.com/products/). I don't think it would take much up
front money. A bigger issue would be a friendly and accessible
place to site the DSL to wireless network link and a DSL provider
willing to go with the project. Support would be an issue so I
presume folks with a decent tech level (and patience) would be
required for startup. Possible volunteer/paid support for others
later on. Seems to me the monthly rate could be very reasonable
... but also based on monthly data volume. If there are half a
dozen or so people interested in something like this then let's
get together and talk. - jim

Any takers?
