Save the date...

While RTC is not directly involved in the Redwood Coast Connect project, we
support efforts to increase broadband coverage and reliability. To that end,
RTC is hosting Redwood Coast Connect at its January meeting. The format will
be a community meeting, with survey filled out, a short presentation about
the project, and community input. Refreshments will be provided. Usual time
and date, but note the location change - HSU Aquatics Center. Hope to see
you there. Tina

Official info about meeting:

Public Invited to Community Meetings on Bringing High Speed Internet To
Rural Areas

Arcata - Redwood Coast Connect (RCC) will hold the final two of seven
regional community meetings in January for interested community members to
provide input about how availability of high speed Internet could make a
difference in their lives and communities. RCC is a pilot project to make
broadband available to rural communities in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino,
and Trinity Counties through the assessing and mapping the needs of users,
engaging telecom providers, simplifying policies and tapping the ingenuity
of entrepreneurs in the region.

Meetings will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on:

Tuesday, January 8, Healy Senior Center, 456 Briceland Road, Redway, and on

Thursday, January 10, Humboldt Bay Aquatics Center, 921 Waterfront Drive,
Eureka.

Meeting cosponsors are the County of Humboldt, Southern Humboldt Working
Together, the Eureka Chamber of Commerce, and the Redwood Technology
Consortium.

Refreshments will be served. Persons needing special arrangements, such as
hearing-impaired, or non-English-speaking, can request assistance by
emailing rcc at humboldt.edu, or calling 707-826-3919.

Organizers hope to hear from every segment of the community - from parents,
students, seniors, and educators, to businesses, the non-profit sector,
health care, public services, and local government. Through broad community
input and collaboration, RCC seeks to identify opportunities for broadband
deployment and to spur development of uniform broadband-friendly policies in
the four-county region.

In addition to conducting community meetings, the public is being surveyed
by phone, mailed, and web-based surveys.

Redwood Coast Connect is a project of Humboldt State University in
partnership with Redwood Coast Rural Action. To request information, call
