RTC General Membership Meeting
January 11, 2007, 5:30
Humboldt County Office of Education, Sequoia Room, Eureka
Bob Morse, President, convened the meeting and invited those in attendance to briefly introduce themselves.
ACV WIRELESS
Four proposals have been submitted from vendors to provide wireless access at the Eureka/Arcata Airport. The RTC Board is currently reviewing the proposals.
PROGRAMS/VENUES/ 2007 MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS
Bob announced that the membership meetings for 2007 will alternate between meetings with speakers on topics of relevance to members and social mixers where members will have the opportunity to become better acquainted. The mixer on February 8 will be held at Chapalas.
Members are invited to submit suggestions for program topics to the board by emailing board at redwoodtech.org.
BROADBAND TASK FORCE / ALTERNATE FIBER
Tina Nerat will be attending the first Statewide Broadband Task Force meeting with Rollin Richmond and Peter Pennekamp where they will represent and speak for the entire rural region of Northern California.
The Alternate Fiber study is moving forward; contractors and investors will soon be solicited. This is expected to be accomplished by June.
Members generally agreed that the fiber failure which occurred in December was inadequately addressed by ATT, with little to no public explanation or follow-up; neither was there any attempt to provide blanket notification during the Internet outage. Essential services were not available, including 911. Backup provisions were not provided.
Members are invited to send information regarding how their businesses were impacted to the Board at board at redwoodtech.org. Tina Nerat will write a Tech Beat article regarding this occurrence.
SCHOLARSHIP
The RTC will, once again, award a scholarship to a local high school student. The amount has been increased to $1500.
Members are invited to send new topic suggestions to the Board at
board at redwood tech.org.
OFFICERS
Board officers will remain the same for 2007:
Bob Morse, President
Daria, Topousis, Vice-President
John McBrearty, Secretary
Tina Nerat, Treasurer
Gregg Foster, Member-at-Large
Committees:
Rene Agredano, Communications Chair
Chris Crawford
The Board would like to resurrect the Membership Committee and invites members who are interested to contact him at board at redwoodtech.org.
MEMBERSHIP 2007
Membership invoices have been sent to current members. Others who are interested in joining, as an individual or business, should go to the website at www.redwoodtech.org to submit an application. Existing members are reminded to update the membership profile as necessary, especially if you have recently changed from .cox to .suddenlink.
GUEST SPEAKER BARBARA BROWNING
Topic: Getting Organized the Clear & SIMPLE Way: Creating Space for What Matters
Barbara, owner of Order Within, shared methods and suggestions to better organize, discard clutter, and approach life and work in a Clear and SIMPLE Way. Members were invited to share ideas and ask questions. Several members noted that they had implemented ideas proposed by Barbara at her presentation last year. Many members will continue to organize and create order thanks to Barbara and her professional advice.
GOOD OF THE ORDER
It was announced that wireless access is now available at the Wharfinger Building.
One of the attendees asked for those interested in establishing a group of individuals interested in web-based business start-up and maintenance to stay after the meeting to discuss mutual interests.
We were reminded that cards and words of support for Don Wolski would be greatly appreciated. Visit www.supportcircle.com and type in Wolski. The family could also use help with meal preparation. If interested please go to morsemedia.net/donw.
Next General Membership Meeting:
Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Chapalas.
Respectfully submitted
Kitty Yancheff, Administrative Director
