The Redwood Technology Consortium will hold their meeting on Thursday, June
14 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at the Humboldt County Office of Education
Sequoia Room, 901 Myrtle Avenue. RTC meetings are free and the public is
encouraged to attend.
June's meeting agenda features the California State Parks presenting their
online resources for teachers and students. The PORTS program - Parks Online
Resources for Teachers and Students - uses video conferencing technology to
deliver programs from remote parks to students across California. Five
programs are already being delivered from state parks in Central and
Southern California and are becoming very popular, especially the connection
to the Ano Nuevo Elephant Seals and the Paleo-Lab out of Anza Borrego Desert
State Park. What is missing is a Redwood Ports program that reflects our
north coast region. The North Coast Redwoods District is currently
developing this new PORTS program with HCOE and HSU as its primary partners.
Staff will demonstrate their new interactive website, redwoodecology.org,
launched last month. This website will also include downloadable curriculum,
video podcasts from parks and eventually include remote cameras and live
streaming video available to classrooms nationwide.
RTC welcomes all interested community members who want to learn more about
technology and its effects in Humboldt County, and get to know RTC members
and member businesses.
The RTC is a non-profit organization representing the North Coast's emerging
Information Technology industry cluster. For more information, visit
