  RTC General Membership Meeting
  March 8, 2007, 5:30 p.m.
  Humboldt County Office of Education, The Annex, Eureka
   
  PRESENTATION:  BROADBAND TASK FORCE
  Guest Speakers: President Rollin Richmond, Humboldt State University
                            Peter Pennekamp, Executive Director, Humboldt Area Foundation
   
  President Richmond and Peter Pennekamp shared an informative presentation on the Governor’s Boardband Task Force, its formal charge and the Report to the Governor to be delivered within the next few weeks. Tina Nerat is serving in an advisory capacity and also spoke about her experience as a part of the Build Out Working Group. 
  The full PowerPoint presentation delivered at the meeting will be made available online at a later date. An announcement will be sent to the list noting availability and link.
    
  Following the presentation Tina made the following announcements:
   
  ARCATA  AIRPORT (ACV) WIRELESS PROJECT
  This Project was awarded to C4I for completion. WiFi will soon be available at the airport and free of charge!
   
  SCHOLARSHIPS
  Applications for the $1500 scholarship have been sent to all of the local high schools. The application and essay are due by April 2 and must be submitted by email.
   
  BROADBAND FORUM III
  This event will be held on May 3. It will be held at the Arcata Community Center if they are able to set up wireless access by that time. 
   
  COALITION FOR AMERICAN INDIANS IN COMPUTING
  Kitty spoke about a new NSF-funded program at HSU which is designed to increase the participation of American Indians in the field of computing. Participants will receive personal attention and support, exposure to IT professionals, opportunities to work in the IT field and receive a stipend. This opportunity is available to entering freshmen and transfer students. There will also be a summer camp available to entering HSU students, as well as other interested students in grades 9-12.   NEXT MEETING
  A Social Mixer will be held on Thursday, April 12 at the Sea Grill.
  Broadband Forum is scheduled for May 3
  The next regular general membership meeting will be on Thursday, June 14.
