It does seem like there are a number of people who want to do something
about this. It's great to fire off a letter to the editor or to make a phone
call to a county supervisor, but I think we should actually get *organized*
if we want to have a meaningful impact on the situation. It will take some
sustained effort and a wider base of public support to get real movement.

This is ultimately the winning argument for a campaign to connect
Humboldt: getting reliable, scalable internet connectivity into the area is
a critical piece of economic infrastructure for the 21st century. It's
vastly more important than the rail project, for instance.
Satellite is a fine for some individuals and businesses backup, but it
doesn't scale county-wide. More importantly, it is limited in terms of
latency and overall bandwidth: it's not a building block for the future.
