You are invited to attend a press conference in Eureka announcing the
funding of a $500,000 broadband grant to attract broadband service into
every Redwood Coast community in the four-county region.  The grant has been
awarded to Humboldt State University in partnership with Redwood Coast Rural
Action (RCRA).  

 

This event is the community launch of Redwood Coast Connect, a Broadband
Initiative for the Redwood Region.  Please RSVP to 707-826-3919, or to

The event will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2007, 1:00 p.m., at the Aquatic
Center, 921 Waterfront Drive, Eureka (next to the Adorni Center, see
directions below).

 

Funding was provided by the California Emerging Technology Fund and a
consortium of regional funders including the Headwaters Fund, Mel and Grace
McLean Foundation, Humboldt Area Foundation, Redwood Region Economic
Development Commission, the counties, and others for the Redwood Coast
initiative.

 

In 2004 RCRA, in collaboration with the Redwood Technology Consortium and
the Redwood Region Economic Development Commission, made broadband a top
priority and convened a collaborative of all sectors in the region, from
business to environment, ranching to Indian tribes and agricultural workers
to educators.  The Redwood Coast counties-Humboldt, Mendocino, Trinity and
Del Norte-will be the first in the state to prototype a project that
demonstrates and records significant and growing demand for broadband
services in rural regions.  

 

Directions to the Aquatic Center in Eureka:

Traveling south on Highway 101, turn right onto L Street, continue until
Waterfront Drive, turn left on Waterfront Drive.

Traveling north on Highway 101, turn left onto I Street, I Street becomes
Waterfront Drive.

Parking: Vehicles should be parked in the lot between the Adorni Center and
the Aquatic Center.
