Larry,
As usual, you make a lot of good points. I'd like to point out that I
wasn't trying to polarize the discussion politically by mentioning the
"Obama money". It wouldn't matter who was elected. My only point was that
there is no "free money". Unless new money is put into circulation, the
only way to keep a promise to give someone money is to take it away from
someone else. It's not really a political or even an economic issue to my
mind. It all just boils down to plain and simple physics. For every
action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
It would be nice if the RTC had the political clout to get things done on
a state or federal level, but that would depend much upon how much money
we could raise or how many voters we could muster to vote based on our
recommendations. Perhaps it is just a pipe dream to think that we could
ever have that kind of political leverage and we should focus on the
private sector instead? If so, what could the RTC as a group do to attract
the types of businesses that truly improve the situation here, like
101Netlink? Perhaps Seth could provide some input on what it would take to
make Humboldt a more attractive market?
