Hi gang, I was pleased to discover that in addition to the $50/person fundraiser - dinner not included - announced here the other day Gil Friend will be speaking for FREE Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 3:00-5:00 in the Kate Buchanan Room at HSU.
HSU has lots of great programs that the community is invited to attend. Below is another free HSU series with a talk coming up soon. Info on the program and other talks is in the link at the bottom.
Dear colleagues and friends,
We are pleased to welcome Matthew St. Clair as the next speaker in the Sustainable Futures: Energy, Environment and Society speaker series.
He will speak on Thursday, February 21 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the new Behavioral and Social Sciences Building, room 166 (BSS 166). The title of his talk is "Campus Sustainability at California Universities."
Matt, a dynamic young environmental leader, is the first Sustainability Manager for the University of California's Office of the President. While a graduate student at UC Berkeley, he spearheaded a successful student campaign to get the UC Board of Regents to adopt a comprehensive green building and clean energy policy. Matt has a Masters degree from the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley and a Bachelors degree in Economics from Swarthmore College.
It is especially exciting to welcome Matt to campus as we launch the Humboldt Energy Independence Fund (HEIF) here on campus (see http://www.humboldt.edu/~heif/) Matt has been at the forefront of the push to reduce the environmental impact of energy and resource use at California's universities, and his visit provides an excellent opportunity for us to learn from his experiences and share our own with him.
The series is co-organized by the Schatz Energy Research Center and the Environment and Community Graduate Program. For more information, see http://www.schatzlab.org/speaker_series.html
