At McKinleyville Senior Center we have a fairly active group, with new
"members" showing up frequently. We have been able to get quite a few folks
oriented to their computers, have been able supply a couple of refurbished
machines to seniors, sometimes make house-calls to get machines squared
away, and sometimes have seniors bring machines to our resident "computer
fixer". These services are, of course, supplied at no charge by our
volunteers. We have a website, http://www.mcvilleonline.com with some
sub-domains directed to specific users. We are using Joomla!, WordPress, and
Noah's Classifieds, among other open source projects, we are just beginning
to get our seniors acquainted with the possibilities the Web as an
interactive medium. We certainly encourage members of RTC to take a look at
our sites and offer whatever suggestions they may have.

Subject: [RTC List] Tech issues and Seniors
I love to enter into discussions about technology and senior citizens. I
believe "the longer you live, the older you get." How tech savvy is our
senior population? Humboldt Senior Resource Center offers computer classes
to seniors, but do we? If so, where, and why isn't this information
advertised in the Senior News? If not, why not? All of us would love to live
long, healthy and prosperous lives. Consequently, "the longer we live the
older we get..." Holla back.
