Are you ready for digital television? The Humboldt County Library will host an
information session on the Digital Television Transition on Wednesday, May 14
at 6:00 p.m.A representative from
the Federal Communications Commission will visit the area to discuss the upcoming
change which requires that all television stations switch from analog to
digital broadcasting on February 17, 2009.
Consumers will be given the opportunity to
ask questions and learn what is necessary to receive digital broadcasting. This
is an opportunity to learn more about the compatibility of television
receivers, tuners, converters, satellite equipment, HDTV, VCRs, DVD players,
camcorders, video games and more. The digital-to-analog converter box coupon
program, operated by the National Telecommunications and Information
Administration, which runs from January 1, 2008to March 31, 2009will be explained.
Issues pertaining to closed captioning for
DTV will also be discussed. A question and answer session will be held
following the presentation. It is anticipated that this will be the only visit
by an FCC representative prior to the DTV transition so residents are
encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.
