Copps Cheers Cable's DTV Education Call Center Effort
Acting Chairman Praises Time Warner Cable's Howe During FCC Meeting
John Eggerton -- Multichannel News, 2/5/2009 5:03:11 PM MT
Sam Howe, executive vice president, Time Warner Cable received plaudits
from the FCC for the cable industry's spearheading of a national DTV
education call center effort.
The praise came today at the first public meeting of acting FCC chairman
Michael Copps, which was devoted to a status report on the DTV
transition in light of the date change

long scheduled for Feb. 17 and now delayed until June 12.
Even before Howe assured the commissioners that cable's commitment to
the initiative would extend to June 12, the effort was hailed as an
exemplary public-private partnership.
Howe said a robust system would be in place in a week, with automated
response units that quickly transferred callers to live operators.
"We're happy you are here today," said Copps, "and thank you for your
good work."
Barack Obama's transition team asked the cable industry in late December
to help coordinate the effort, given its experience with call centers,
which brought built-in contacts with vendors.
