Hello everyone -

I'd like to hear what local IT pros are doing in terms of lowering their
departmental/organizational carbon footprints. I'm working on project
scoping for my employer, the Redwood Coast Energy Authority, that will
help local small businesses increase their overall office energy
efficiency through PG&E rebates. RCEA is a quasi-governmental
joint-powers authority and partnered with PG&E to roll out energy
efficiency projects in the county. The types of measures we're looking
at include:

- smart power strips
- server virtualization
- green purchasing policy (recycled/reconditioned, 80-plus, EnergyStar, etc)
- thin clients
- telecommuting policies (coupled w/VPN)
- power management software (Big Fix, Verdiem Powersave, etc)

Basically, I'm curious about what you're already doing, what you'd like
to know more about, and what you'd like to do but can't due to
implementation barriers (high cost, insufficient in-house know-how, and
so on).

Thanks,

Christopher
