[RTC List] Recent Power Outage—Arcata/Modem Failure

I am not very knowledgeable about computer stuff, but I enjoy reading  
many of the e-mails that circulate by means of the RTC List.

Following the scheduled power outage in Arcata on Saturday and  
Sunday, March 13 and 14, I was up late Tuesday morning, March 16,  
working on my computer. About 4:00 a.m. our 2 wire Gateway wireless  
modem from AT&T suddenly died. Previous to that it had been acting  
strangely with notices coming up on my monitor that there was no  
connection (when I tried to connect to the internet). We had to  
replace the modem and have made a claim to our insurance company,  
although we are not sure whether or not it is covered in this instance.

Unfortunately we did not unplug our modem before the scheduled outage  
(just an oversight), though we did unplug our computers. We had had  
the modem about two years so it was out of warranty but not terribly  
old.

I'm wondering if any of you have had or heard of problems with modems  
following the outage.
